«Ποιος είναι, δάσκαλε, αυτός ο άνθρωπος που διδάσκει τόσο σοφά;» Ρώτησε ο ένας μαθητής τον Ιωάννη τον Βαπτιστή.
«Και πόσο ωραία τα λέει!» Συμπλήρωσε ο άλλος μαθητής.
Ο Ιωάννης ο Βαπτιστής γύρισε στους δυο νέους και τους είπε:
«Αυτός είναι ο αμνός του Θεού! Ακολουθήστε τον!»

  “Teacher, who is this man who teaches with such wisdom ?” one of the students asked John the Baptist. “And how well does he speak!”, another student added. John the Baptist turned to the two young men and said:
“This is the Lamb of God. You must follow him!”

  “Lehrer wer ist dieser Mann, der so weise lehrt?” fragte Johannes den Taeufer ein Schueler. “Und wie treffend er sich ausdrueckt” ergaenzte ein anderer Schueler. Johannes der Taeufer wandte sich an die beiden jungen Leute und sagte: “Das ist das Schaf Gottes! Folgt ihm!”

  “Maître, qui est cet homme qui enseigne avec tant de sagesse” un disciple interroga Jean-Baptiste se tourna vers les deux jeunes hommes et leur dit:
“Celui est l’ agneau de Dieux! Suivez-le!”

  “Maestro, ¿quién es este hombre que predica tan sabiamente?” preguntó uno de los alumnos a Juan Bautista.
“¡ Y qué bien enseña!” añadió el otro. Juan Bautista se dirigió a los dos jovenes y les dijo:
“¡ Éste es el cordero de Dios! ¡ Siguenlo!”

  Oι δυο νέοι άφησαν το δάσκαλό τους κι έτρεξαν ν' ακούσουν τον Ιησού. Δίσταζαν όμως να τον πλησιάσουν και να τον γνωρίσουν από κοντά. Ο Χριστός, που είδε μέσα στα μάτια τους να λάμπει η φλόγα της πίστης, ήρθε κοντά τους και τους ρώτησε:
«Τι ζητάτε;»
«Εσένα ζητούμε, Διδάσκαλε!» Απάντησε ο Ανδρέας.

  The two young men left their teacher and ran to listen to Jesus. However, they hesitated to go up to him and introduce themselves. Jesus, who saw faith blazing in their eyes, approached them and asked: “What are you seeking?”
“We are seeking you, Teacher!”, Andrew answered.

  Die beiden jungen Maenner liessen den Lehrer stehen und gingen schnell zu Jesus, um ihm zuzuhoeren. Sie zoegerten aber, sich ihm zu naehern und ihn besser kennenzulernen. Christus, der in ihren Augen das Leuchten des Glaubens sah, kam zu ihnen und fragte sie:” Was sucht ihr?” “Wir suchen Dich, Lehrer!” antwortete Andreas.

  Les deux jeunes hommes quittèrent leur maître et coururent pour écouter Jésus-Christe. Ils hésitèrent pourtant à l’ approcher et à faire la connaissance de lui. Jésus-Christe qui vit la flamme de la foi briller dans leurs yeux, s’ avança vers eux et leur demanda:
“Que cherchez-vous?”
“C’ est vous, Maître, que nous charchons!” répondit André.

  Los dos jóvenes dejaron a su maestro y corrieron a escuchar a Jesús. Pero vacilaban aproximarse y conocerle de cerca. Jesús, que vio en sus ojos brillar la llama de la fe, aproximó y les preguntó:
“¿A quién buscáis?”
“¡ A usted, buscamos, maestro!” dijo Andrés.

  «Aκολουθήστε με», είπε ο Χριστός στον Ανδρέα και τον Ιωάννη, και τα πρόσωπα των δυο νέων φωτίστηκαν από χαρά.
Αυτή ήταν η πρώτη συνάντηση του Αποστόλου Ανδρέα και του Ευαγγελιστή Ιωάννη με τον Κύριο. Από αυτό το περιστατικό, ο Ανδρέας πήρε τον τιμητικό τίτλο του «Πρωτόκλητου», γιατί αυτόν κάλεσε πρώτο ο Χριστός, να γίνει μαθητής του. Αυτός, μάλιστα, έγινε, από την επόμενη μέρα της συνάντησής τους, και «Απόστολος», αφού κάλεσε τον αδελφό του, τον Πέτρο, ν' ακολουθήσει το δρόμο του Χριστού και να γίνει κι αυτός μαθητής του.

  “Follow me”, Jesus said to Andrew and John and the faces of the two young men lit up with joy. That was the first encounter of Andrew the Apostle and John the Evangelist with the Lord. In respect to that incident, Andrew has been given the honorary title of the “First – called”, as he was the first one Jesus called to be his disciple. Moreover, the following day of their encounter, he also became an Apostle as he called his brother Peter to follow the way of Jesus and become a disciple too.

  “Folgt mir,” sagte Christus zu Andreas und Johannes und die Gesichter der beiden strahlten vor Freude.
Dies war die erste Begegnung von Apostel Andreas und Johannes dem Evangelisten mit dem Herrn. Nach dieser Begegnung bekam Andreas den Ehrentitel “der Erstgerufene”. Weil Christus ihn als ersten aufgerufen hatte, sein Schueler zu werden. Dies geschah uebrigens am Tag nach der Begegnung; Apostel wurde er genannt, weil er seinen Bruder Petrus dazu veranlasste, den Weg zu Christus zu folgen und dessen Schueler zu werden.

  “Suivez-moi” dit Jésus-Christe à André et à Jean, alors les visages des deux jeunes hommes furent illuminés de joie. C’ était la première rencontre de l’ apôtre André et de l’ évangéliste Jean avec Jésus-Christe. C’ est grâce à cet incident-là qu’ André obtint le titre d’ honneur d’ “Appelé le Premier”, car c’ était lui qui fut appele le premier par Jésus-Christe pour devenir son disciple. Il devint aussi, dès le lendemain de leur rencontre, un “apôtre” lorsqu’ il invita son frère, Paul, à suivre lui aussi la voie de Jésus-Christe et à devenir son disciple.

  “Síguenme” les dijo Jesús a Andrés y a Juan y los rostros de los dos jóvenes iluminaron de alegría. Éste fue el primer encuentro del apóstol Andrés y Juan el evangelista con el Señor. A causa de ese encuentro, Andrés tuvo el título honorifico del “Protoclito” es decir el primer llamado para hacerse discípulo de Jesús. El día siguiente, Andrés se nombró “Apóstol” y llamó también a su hermano Pedro a seguir el camino de Jesús y hacerse discípulo del mismo.

  Aκούγοντας καθημερινά τη διδασκαλία του Ιησού και βλέποντας τα πολυάριθμα θαύματά του, ο Ανδρέας αφιερώθηκε με αφοσίωση στο δάσκαλό του και τον ακολούθησε πιστά σε κάθε του βήμα.
Μετά την Πεντηκοστή, αφού οι μαθητές του Χριστού πήραν την επιφοίτηση του Αγίου Πνεύματος, άρχισαν το αποστολικό τους έργο σε διάφορους τόπους, μεταφέροντας στους ανθρώπους τη διδασκαλία του Κυρίου.

  By listening to Jesus' teachings every day and witnessing the numerous miracles of his, Andrew dedicated himself to his teacher and followed him in his every footstep with devotion.
After the Pentecost, when Jesus’ disciples received the Holy Spirit, they began their apostolic mission going to various places and spreading the teachings of the Lord to the people.

  Weil er taeglich die Lehre Jesus’ hoerte und seine vielen Wunder sah, widmete sich Andreas mit Begeisterung seinem Lehrer und folgte ihm treu auf allen seinen Schritten.
Nach Pfingsten, als die Schueler Christus die Ausgiessung des Heiligen Geistes erhalten hatten, begannen sie ihr Werk als Apostel an verschiedenen Orten und teilten den Menschen die Lehre Gottes mit.

  En écoutant chaque jour l’ enseingement de Jésus-Christe et en témoignant de ses nombreux miracles, André se consacra à son maître et le suiva fidèlement partout. Après la pentecôte, après l’ infusion du Saint-Esprit, les disciples de Jésus-Christe commencèrent leur oeuvre apostolique, qui était la communion aux gens de l’ enseignement de Jésus-Christe, dans diverses lieux.

  Escuchando cada día la predicación de Jesús y viendo sus múltiples milagros, Andrés se dedicó totalmente a su Señor y siguió sus pasos con devoción.
Después del Pentecostés,* cuando los discípulos de Jesús habían recibido el Espíritu Santo, comenzaron sus misiones apostólicas en diversos lugares enseñando a la gente la palabra del Señor.

  Aνάμεσα στα πολλά ταξίδια του, ο Απόστολος Ανδρέας πέρασε κι από την Κύπρο. Διέσχισε όλη την Καρπασία, διδάσκοντας στους ανθρώπους το λόγο του Χριστού, προχωρώντας προς τα ανατολικά, με την ελπίδα να βρει καράβι, για να ταξιδέψει σ' άλλα μέρη και να συνεχίσει την ιερή αποστολή του.

  In one of his numerous travels, St. Andrew visited Cyprus. He went all over Karpasia, teaching people the word of the Lord travelling eastwards in hope of getting on a ship that would take him to other places to continue his holy mission

  Auf einer seiner vielen Reisen kam Apostel Andreas auch nach Zypern. Er reiste duch ganz Karpasien, lehrte ueberall das Wort des Herrn und kam weiter oestlich in der Hoffnung, ein Schiff zu finden, um in andere Laender zu reisen und seine heilige Mission weiterzuverfolgen.

  Parmi ses nombreux voyages, l’ apôtre André visita Cypre. Il traversa toute la Karpasie enseignant aux gens le verbe de Jésus-Christe, avançant vers l’ est du pays avec l’ espoir de trouver un navire pour voyager à d’autres pays et continuer ainsi son mission.

  Entre sus múltiples viajes, el apóstol Andrés pasó también por Chipre. Atravesó toda la Karpacia, enseñando a las gentes la palabra de Jesús, avanzando hacia el Este con la esperanza de hallar alguna nave y viajar por otros lugares continuando su misión apostólica.

  Επιτέλους, ένα καράβι φάνηκε ν' αρμενίζει στα καταγάλανα νερά. Ερχόταν απ' τη μεριά της Σαλαμίνας και κατευθυνόταν προς τα βορειοανατολικά. Ο Απόστολος Ανδρέας χάρηκε πολύ κι άρχισε να κουνάει τα χέρια του, σημάδι πως ήθελε να τον πάρουν μαζί τους. Ο καπετάνιος, καλός άνθρωπος, τον λυπήθηκε κι έστειλε μια βάρκα με δυο ναύτες, για να τον φέρουν στο καράβι.

  At last, a ship appeared, sailing through the bright blue waters. It was coming from Salamina and was heading north–east. St. Andrew was so pleased that he started to wave his hands as a signal that he wanted to get on board. The captain, a righteous man, felt compassion for him and sent a boat with two sailors to fetch him.

  Endlich erschien in den ruhigen Gewaessern ein Schiff. Es kam aus Richtung Salamis und hatte nordoestlichen Kurs. Der Apostel Andreas freute sich sehr und winkte, um mitgenommen zu werden. Der Kapitaen, ein guter Mensch, erbarmte sich seiner und schickte ein Boot mit zwei Matrosen, die ihn zum Schiff brachten.

  Un navire s’ apparaîtra enfin flotter dans la mer toute bleu, venant du côté de Salamine et étant en route pour le nord-est. L’ apôtre se réjouit et se mit à faire signes avec ses mains pour montrer qu’ il voulait qu’ on le prenne avec eux. Le capitaine, homme honnête eut pitié de lui et envoya deux marins en bateau pour le mener au navire.

  Por fin, una nave apareció navegando en las aguas azules. Venía de Salamina y se dirigía hacia noreste. El apóstol Andrés se alegró mucho y empezó a mover las manos mostrando que quería ir con ellos. El capitán, un hombre bondadoso, le sintió lástima y envió una barca con dos marineros para llevarlo a bordo.

  Aφού πάτησε στο κατάστρωμα, ευχαρίστησε τον καπετάνιο και το καράβι άνοιξε πανιά, για το μακρινό του ταξίδι. Σε λίγη ώρα φτάσανε στις «Κλείδες», κάτι μικρά ξερονήσια, που βρίσκονται στο ανατολικότερο άκρο της χερσονήσου. Σ' αυτά τα νησάκια ήταν κτισμένος ο φάρος, που ανοιγοκλείνοντας το μοναδικό του μάτι, ορμήνευε τους ναυτικούς, ν' αποφεύγουν τα θανατερά βράχια. Εκεί ακριβώς, έπιασε μπουνάτσα και τα πανιά κρεμάστηκαν άψυχα στα κατάρτια.

  After he set foot on board, he thanked the captain and the ship started out on its long journey. Soon they reached “Kledaes”, a cluster of small, desert islands that is located on the eastern end of the peninsula.
On those islands there was a lighthouse, which by blinking its one eye warned seafarers to stay away from the deadly rocks. Exactly at that spot, calm come over the waters and the sails hang lifelessly from the masts.

  Als en an Deck war, bedankte er sich beim Kapitaen und das Schiff hisste die Segel fuer eine weite Reise. Bald kamen sie nach “Kleides”, kleinen unbewohnten Inseln, am oestlichen Ende der Halbinsel. Auf diesen Inseln stand der Leuchtturm, der mit seinem einen Auge blinzelte und so den Seeleuten den Ratschlag gab, die gefaehrlichen Felsen zu umfahren. Genau dort begann die Windstille und die Segel hangen leblos an den Masten.

  En mettant son pied sur le pout, il remercia le capitaine et le navire metta à la voile pour son long voyage. Après peu de temps on arriva à “Klides”, quelques îles désertes à l’ extrême côte est de la peninsule. A ces îles-là se trouvait le phare qui, eu clignotant son oeil unique conseillait les marins d’ éviter les roches mortalles. C’ était là où la mer calma et les voiles furent suspendues mortes aux mâts.

  En cuanto pisó la cubierta de la nave, el apóstol agradeció al capitán y la nave se hizo a la mar en su viaje lejano. Muy pronto llegaron a las “Klides”, unas islas desiertas en la parte más oriental de la península. En estas islas había un faro que indicaba a los marineros evitar las rocas peligrosas. En este sitio se hizo una calma absoluta y las velas se colgaron serenas en los mástiles.

  Mια και τους είχε τελειώσει το νερό, ο καπετάνιος ρώτησε κι έμαθε από τον Απόστολο Ανδρέα, πως εκεί έξω υπήρχε μια πηγή. Έστειλε, λοιπόν, μια βάρκα με μερικούς ναύτες, για να γιομίσουν τα βαρέλια τους. Οι ναύτες έψαξαν πολλή ώρα, όμως δεν βρήκαν την πηγή, και γύρισαν πίσω στο καράβι άπρακτοι.

  As they had run out of water, the captain found out from St. Andrew that there was a spring on the island. So, he sent a boat with a few sailors to fill up their barrels. The sailors searched for a long time, but as they found no spring, they came back on the ship empty-handed.

  Weil das Trinkwasser zu Ende gegangen war, erfuhr der Kapitaen von Apostel Andreas, dass dort drueben eine Quelle sei. Er schickte ein Boot mit einigen Seeleuten dorthin, um die Faesser zu fuellen. Die Seeleute suchten lange, fanden aber die Quelle nicht und kehrten unverrichteter Dinge wieder zurueck.

  N’ayant plus d’ eau potable, le capitaine demada à l’ apôtre et apprit par lui qu’ il y avait une source d’ eau là-dehors. Il envoya alors quelques marins en bateau pour remplir leurs bidons. Les marines y cherchèrent pour longtemps sans pourtant trouver la source; ils retournèrent alors au navire bredouille.

  Cuando les había acabado el agua, el capitán preguntó y se enteró del apóstol Andrés que en las rocas había un manantial. Así, envió una barca con unos marineros para llenar los barriles. Los marineros buscaban por mucho tiempo pero, no hallando el manantial, regresaron a la nave con las manos vacías.

  «Nα πας κι εσύ μαζί τους», είπε θυμωμένος ο καπετάνιος στον Απόστολο Ανδρέα. «Αν με κορόιδεψες, θα σε ρίξω στη θάλασσα, τροφή στα σκυλόψαρα».
Έτσι, ο Απόστολος Ανδρέας αναγκάστηκε να κατέβει στο δαντελωτό ακρογιάλι, μαζί με τους ναύτες, για να βρει την πηγή.

  “Go with them !”, the captain said furiously to St. Andrew. “If you have fooled me, I will throw you in the sea for the sharks to eat”. So, St. Andrew began walking along the lace-like coast together with the sailors in search of the spring.

  “Du musst mit ihnen mitfahren, “sagte der Kapitaen veraergert zu Andreas. Wenn Du mich belogen hast, werde ich Dich ins Meer werfen lassen, als Futter fuer die Haie!”
Deshalb musste der Apostel mit den Seeleuten zum Ufer fahren um die Quelle zu finden.

  “Va avec eux”; dit avec colère la capitaine à l’ apôtre. “En cas que tu me trompes, je vais te jetter dans la mer et tu vas devenir la nourriture des requins”. Ainsi l’ apôtre s’ obligea à descedre avec les marins au bord de mer en dantelle pour trouver la source.

  “Váte tú también con ellos” dijo el capitán enfatado, al apóstol Andrés, y si me has tomado el pelo voy a arrojarte a la mar, presa a los tiburones.”
Así, el apóstol Andrés se vio obligado a llegarse con los marineros a la isla desierta para hallar el manantial.

  Eκεί έξω, γονάτισε και προσευχήθηκε θερμά στο Θεό, παρακαλώντας τον να τον βοηθήσει.
Και το θαύμα έγινε! Από τα βράχια ξεπήδησε κελαριστό και γάργαρο το πολυπόθητο νερό. Οι ναύτες γιόμισαν χαρούμενοι τα βαρέλια και τα φόρτωσαν στη βάρκα.

  Out there, he fell on his knees and prayed to God with all his heart to help him. Then, a miracle happened! From the rocks, out came the precious water, clear and gurgling. Delighted, the sailors began filling up their barrels and loaded them on the boat.

  Dort angekommen, kniete er nieder, betete zu Gott und bat ihn, ihm zu helfen. Und das Wunder geschah! Aus einem Felsen sprudelte sanft rauschend und klar das so ersehnte Wasser. Voller Freude fuellten die Matrosen die Faesser und luden sie auf das Boot.

  Il s’ y mit à genoux et pria Dieux avec ardeur demadant son aide. Et voilà le miracle! L’ eau tant désiré surgit faisant du bruit en coulant à travers le rocher. Les marins remplirent joyeusement leurs bidons et les chergèrent sur le bateau.

  En ese sitio, el apóstol se arrodilló e hizo una oración profunda a Dios, rogándale a ayudarle. ¡ Y se hizo el milagro! Dentro de las rocas surgió el agua borboteando. Los marineros alegres llenaron los barriles y los cargaron en la barca.

  Πάνω στο καράβι, ανάμεσα στο πλήρωμα, βρισκόταν και το τυφλό παιδί του καπετάνιου. Είχε χάσει το φως του πριν μερικά χρόνια κι ο πατέρας του το 'παιρνε στα μακρινά ταξίδια του, ίσως και βρει κάπου γιατρό, να το γιατρέψει.
Σαν γύρισαν, λοιπόν, στο καράβι, ο Απόστολος Ανδρέας πήρε λίγο φρέσκο, δροσερό νερό κι ένιψε το πρόσωπο του παιδιού.

  Among the ship’s crew was the captain’s blind son. He had lost his vision a few years ago and since then, his father used to take him along on his long journeys in hope of finding a doctor that would cure him. As soon as they came on board, St. Andrew took some fresh water in his hands and washed the child’s face.

  Ausser der Mannschaft war auch der blinde Sohn des Kapitaens an Bord. Er war vor einigen Jahren erblindet und sein Vater nahm ihn auf seine Reisen mit, weil er hoffte, irgendwo einen Arzt zu finden, der ihn heilen koennte. Als sie von der Insel wieder aufs Schiff zuruekkehrten, nahm Apostel Andreas etwas von dem kuehlen, frischen Wasser und benetzte damit das Gesicht des Jungen.

  L’ enfant aveugle du capitaine fut un des gens qui se trouvaient sur la navire. Il perdit la vue quelques ans avant, alors son père le prenait avec lui à ses longs voyages, peut être pour trouver quelque docteur qui peuve le guérir.
Quand on retourna au navire, l’ apôtre prit un peu d’ eau frais et eu lava le visage de l’ enfant.

  En la nave, entre la tripulación, estaba también el hijo ciego del capitán. Perdió la vista hace años, y su padre lo llevaba consigo en sus viajes lejanos, esperando encontrar algún médico para sanarlo.
Así, en cuanto regresaron a la nave, el apóstol Andrés tomó un poco de agua fresca y lavó el rostro del chico.

  «Πατέρα, βλέπω! Πατέρα, βρήκα το φως μου!» Φώναξε πετώντας απ' τη χαρά του ο μικρός και χώθηκε στην αγκαλιά του σαστισμένου καπετάνιου.
Πατέρας και γιος γονάτισαν μπροστά στον Απόστολο Ανδρέα και τον ευχαρίστησαν, με δάκρυα στα μάτια, για το πανάκριβο δώρο που τους πρόσφερε.

  “Father, I can see! Father, I have my vision now!”, the boy cried, leaping with joy into the arms of the astonished captain. Both father and son fell at the Apostle’s feet and thanked him in tears for the most precious gift he had given them.

  “Vater, ich sehe! Vater, ich kann wieder sehen!” rief der Kleine ausser sich vor Freude und fiel seinem verbluefften Vater um den Hals.
Vater und Sohn knieten vor Apostel Andreas und bedankten sich mit Traenen in den Augen fuer das wertvolle Geschenk.

  “Mon père je peux voir! J’ ai retrouvé ma vue!” cria l’ enfant en sottant de joie et courra dans les mains du capitaine confondu.
Père et fils tombèrent aux genoux devant l’ apôtre et le remercièrent, les larmes aux yeux, pour leur avoir offert ce cadeau inappréciable.

  “¡Padre, yo veo! ¡Padre, he encontrado la vista!” gritó el chiquillo, lleno de alegría y se metió en el regazo del capitán atónito.
Padre e hijo se arrodillaron frente al apóstol Andrés y le agradecieron con lágrimas en los ojos por el regalo más precioso que les había ofrecido.

  Ο Άγιος τους ευλόγησε και, μετά, μίλησε στους ναύτες και στους ταξιδιώτες για τον Χριστό. Όλοι πάνω στο καράβι, αφού είδαν το μεγάλο θαύμα κι άκουσαν τα λόγια του Αγίου, πίστεψαν και βαφτίστηκαν χριστιανοί.
Στο μεταξύ ο άνεμος δυνάμωσε και το καράβι, με φουσκωμένα τα πανιά, συνέχισε το ταξίδι του.

  The saint blessed them and began speaking to the sailors and his fellow travelers of Lord Jesus. Everybody on board, having witnessed that great miracle and having listened to the words of the saint believed and became Christians. In the meantime, the wind picked up and blowing beneath their sails, they continued on their journey.

  Der Heilige segnete sie und sprach anschliessend mit den Seeleuten und Passagieren ueber Christus. Nachdem sie das grosse Wunder gesehen und die Worte des Heiligen gehoert hatten, wurden alle glaeubig und liessen sich zu Christen taufen. Inzwischen war der Wind staerker geworden und das Schiff setzte seine Reise mit geblaehten Segeln fort.

  Le Saint leur donna sa bénédiction et ensuite parla aux marins et aux voyageurs de Jésus-Christe. Tous les gens qui se trouvaient sur le navire, après avoir témoigné de ce grand miracle et écouté les paroles du Saint, crurent eu Dieu et furent baptisés Chrétiens.
Le vent devint fort et le navire continua son voyage aux voiles gonflées.

  El santo les bendijo y después les habló sobre la vida de Jesucristo a los marineros y a los pasajeros. Todos en la nave, testigos del gran milagro, escuchaban las palabras del santo, y creyeron en Dios y se hicieron cristianos.
El viento sopló y la nave, con las velas infladas, continuó el viaje.

  O Απόστολος Ανδρέας γύρισε σε πολλά μέρη διδάσκοντας το θείο λόγο. Με τα πολλά του θαύματα, έφερε πολλούς ανθρώπους στο δρόμο του Χριστού.
Στην Πάτρα, όμως, ο ειδωλολάτρης άρχοντας της πόλης διέταξε να τον συλλάβουν και να τον σταυρώσουν, για να σταματήσει τη δράση του. Ο Απόστολος ζήτησε να τον σταυρώσουν ανάποδα, γιατί αισθανόταν πως δεν ήταν άξιος, να πεθάνει με τον ίδιο τρόπο, όπως ο λατρευτός του Δάσκαλος.

  St. Andrew traveled around many places, teaching the word of the Lord. Through the many miracles he performed, he brought many people to the way of Jesus.
At Patra however, the ruler of the city who was a pagan, ordered for St. Andrew to be arrested and crucified, so that his action would cease. The Apostle requested to be crucified upside down, as he felt that he was not worthy of dying in the same way as his beloved Teacher.

  Der Apostel Andreas reiste viel und lehrte das Wort Gottes. Mit Hilfe seiner vielen Wunder fuehrte er viele Menschen auf Gottes Weg.
In Patras ordnete der goetzenverehrende Herrscher der Stadt seine Verhaftung und Kreuzigung an, um seine Taetigkeit zu beenden. Andreas verlangte, mit den Beinen nach oben gekreuzigt zu werden, weil er sich nicht wuerdig fuehlte, auf die selbe Art zu sterben, wie der verehrte Lehrer.

  L’ apôtre André visita de nombreux lieux enseignant le verbe de Dieu. Ses nombreux miracles menèrent beaucoup de monde dans la voie de Jésus-Christe. A Patras, pourtnat, le souverain idolâtre de la ville ordonna qu’ on l’ arrêta et le crucifia, pour mettre fin à son action. L’ apôtre lui demanda qu’ ou la crucifie à l' euvers; croiant qu' il n'était pas digne de mourir de la manière que mourut son maître bien aimé.

  El apóstol Andrés fue en muchas partes predicando la palabra de Dios y con sus múltiples milagros dirigió muchas personas en el camino de Jesús.
Pero, en Patras, el soberano idolatra de la ciudad ordenó arrestarlo y crucificarlo para detener su misión apostólica. El apóstol, pidió crucificarlo del revés porque sentía que no le merecía morir de la misma manera que su maestro adorable.

  Oταν ο καπετάνιος έμαθε για το θάνατο του Αποστόλου, μαράζωσε πολύ και περνώντας, μετά από καιρό, απ' τον τόπο όπου συνάντησε τον Άγιο, έκτισε ένα μικρό εκκλησάκι, πάνω απ' την πηγή. Εκεί έβαλε με ευλάβεια και την εικόνα του Αποστόλου Ανδρέα.
Οι καπετάνιοι, που περνούσαν με τα καράβια τους από εκείνο το σημείο, γνωρίζοντας την ιστορία του, κατέβαιναν, γονάτιζαν ευλαβικά στο μικρό εκκλησάκι και προσεύχονταν στον Άγιο, προσφέροντάς του τα δώρα τους.

  When the captain heard of the death of the saint, he was devastated and when he later traveled to the place he had met him, he built a chapel on top of the spring. There, he placed the icon of St. Andrew with much devoutness. Seafarers who came by that spot, knowing its story, used to go ashore, kneel before the chapel with respect and pray to the saint, leaving him their offerings.

  Als der Kapitaen von Andreas’ Tod erfuhr, war er sehr traurig und als er nach laengerer Zeit wieder dorthin kam, wo er den Heiligen getroffen hatte, baute er eine kleine Kirche bei der Quelle. Dort stellte er andaechtig die Ikone des Apostel Andreas auf. Die Kapitaene, die mit ihren Schiffen an dieser Stelle vorbeikamen und die Geschichte kannten, hielten dort , knieten in der kleinen Kirche nieder, beteten zum Heiligen und stellen ihm Geschenke hin.

  Quand le capitaine apprit de la mort de l’ apôtre, il tomba dans le marasme; passant très longtemps après par le lieu où il recontra le Saint pour la première fois il construit une petite chapelle au dessus de la source. Il y a posa avec respect religieux l’ icône de l’ apôtre André.
Les capitaines qui passaient en leurs navires par ce lieu – là et qui connaisaient son histoire, y descendaient pour se mettre à genoux dans la petite chapelle et prier au Saint en lui offrant leurs cadeaux.

  Cuando el capitán se enteró de la muerte del apóstol, sintió gran pena y cuando pasó por los lugares donde había encontrado al santo, construyó una capilla en el manantial y puso, con gran devoción, el icono del apóstol Andrés. Los capitanes, que navegaban por ese lugar, conociendo la vida del apóstol, visitaban la capilla, se arrodillaban, rezaban con devoción y hacían sus ofrendas al santo.

  Στη θέση εκείνου του μικρού ξωκκλησιού, βρίσκεται σήμερα κτισμένος ένας μεγαλόπρεπος ναός και μοναστήρι, προς τιμή του Αποστόλου Ανδρέα. Εδώ και μερικά χρόνια, προσμένουν βουβά την άγια μέρα της λευτεριάς, για να δεχτούν τους πιστούς προσκυνητές και να γιορτάσουν, όπως κάθε χρόνο, στις 30 Νοεμβρίου, τη μνήμη του θαυματουργού Αποστόλου Ανδρέα, όπως γινόταν με λαμπρότητα παλαιότερα, ανήμερα της γιορτής του Πρωτόκλητου μαθητή του Κυρίου.

  In the place of that chapel, a magnificent church and a monastery have been built, in honour of St. Andrew. For many years, they both await in silence for the sacred day to come that they will be set free, so that they may welcome the faithful again and celebrate with splendour as they used to do every year on 30th November - on the saint’s feast day - the miracle-working Apostle Andrew, the Lord’s First-called.

  An der Stelle der kleinen Kapelle befinden sich jetzt eine prachtvolle Kirche und ein Kloster zu Ehren des heiligen Andreas. Seit einigen Jahren erwarten sie stumm am heiligen Tag der Freiheit die treuen Pilger und feiern wie jedes Jahr am 30. November das Andenken an den wunderbringenden Apostel Andreas, wie es frueher glanzvoll am Feiertag des Erstgerufenen Schuelers des Herrn geschah.

  A la place de cette petite chapelle sa trouve aujourd’ hui une église majestueuse et un couvent à l’ honneur de l’ apôtre Andrè. Il y a beaucoup ans qu’ils s’ attendrent en silence au jour sacré de la liberté, pour recevoir les pélerins croyants et pour célébrer comme chaque année le 30 Novembre, la mémoire de l’ apôtre André thaumaturge, comme on le faisait avec splendeur an passé, le jour de fête de l’ Appelé le Premier.

  Hoy, en el sitio de esa capilla, se encuentra una iglesia magnífica con un monasterio en honor del apóstol Andrés.
Desde hace muchos años este monasterio espera en silencio el día sagrado de la libertad para celebrar majestuosamente el onomástico del santo con los peregrinos - el día 30 de noviembre - como lo hacían en el pasado.
*Pentecostés-fiesta que las iglesias cristianas celebran en memoria de la vanida del Espíritu Santo sobre los apóstoles cincuenta días después de la Pascua de Ressurrección.
